JVM build available

Well, the core is buildable again (thank you adam), and I've updated my 
archive to be current with adam's plus a couple of workarounds for bugs 
that don't have real fixes yet.

Many things work quite well, but the widgets are pretty hosed at the 
moment. The most egregious problem is that all tabpanes are visible, but 
the combination of bugs and api changes means there's a moderate amount 
of ground to cover to get synched up(charlieg? ;-) ).
