So it becomes an exception. Sorry, I don't like exceptions, especially when they're unnecessary. And if they are necessary, we need to reevaluate the problem at an XWT Spec level. Making something crystal clear won't held someone debug when the variable is being magically set by a template preapplied by a template that's postapplied to one of their custom templates they're preapplying to this situation.
