Not being up to my eyeballs in the widget code, I imagine you would put 
something like

_action = function() {
    do_action_here();
    focusable.lastfocused = focused; 
    }

or sommat.  I'll have to ask Rod tomorrow, because I am pretty sure they 
covered this case.

Personally, I would, yes.  For things like sorting by column, as an example.
