Yes, but if at all possible I'd like something that can install itself
as an Windows service.

That is acceptable iff I can find a pre-built python module for BDB/XML.

Yes, but I find the whitespace issue really repugnant. I might still use
python since it has so far been the only environment I could find that
meets all my requirements.
