One of the most useful things the gateway would do for me (assuming that 
I can get to it from behind the corp. firewall) is notify me that 
someone has joined #xwt.

http://www.bitlbee.org/main.php/intro.html looks like a gateway. I 
think. Jeez, the description really isn't all that clear.
