The first beta version of the new widget set is now online, I'm going to
post a news item to the webpage with a launcher link. For the
impatient:

http://launch.xwt.org/stable/xwt.org/xwar/sampler-0.5pre1.xwar

Goals for 0.5
=============

Fix all obvious bugs in pre1 and subsequent releases.

Full Lithium / Nitrogen compatability.

Known widget issues:

 o  menuitem
      - check/radio does not work

 o  submenu
      - popup is left displayed when parent menu closes

 o  tabpane
      - tabs resize slightly incorrectly
      - general polishing of features

 o  scrollbar
      - clicking bar background doesn't scroll

 o  spin
      - make it work

 o  tree
      - proper keyboard navigation

 o  text widgets
      - proper handling of the 'tab' keypress
      - other little inconsistencies

Goals for 0.6
=============

General bug fixes on 0.5, and extra demos.

 o  cardpane
      - test and create demo

 o  dropdown
      - done but doesn't work yet (Rod?)
      - possibly rename to combo

 o  tooltip
     - fairly simple use of popupable

More to come.

Goals for 0.7
=============

Update and add useful demos from old sampler:

  - colorpicker
  - transparency
  - windowing

More to come.

[0.8, 0.9 goals as yet undefined]

Goals for 1.0
=============

3 full themes:

 o  monopoly
      - almost completed

 o  aqua
      - borrow gfx from Brian's original aqua theme
      - could do with a mac user creating this

 o  gtk2 default
      - should be fairly simple

All widgets completed, included and demoed:

 o  grid
     - as part of the fore or otherwise

 o  table
     - reliant on grid

 o  mdi
     - depends how adventurous we feel!

Demo SVG capabilities.

 o  an SVG theme ?

The above is probably not complete. Ideas, suggestions, criticisms, bug
reports and help are all welcome.

This is just to show that the majority of the work is done, the
underlying infrastructure is essentially finished and most of the
widgets have been written. A few bugs are to be ironed out, some new
themes created, and the last couple of complex widgets written.

It is already hopefully feeling very 'monopoly' like. (Obviously my
opinions are biased!)

I'm going to try and release xwars regularly and often (perhaps weekly)
as we strive towards this goal.

Then we'll be there. :)

Ciao.
