JBoss jBPM 3.0 development status update

Last week, jbpm 3.0 alpha 3 was released. The main addition in that version was documentation and an identity component for storing organisational information. The state of the implementation and the documentation of jBPM 3.0 is certainly good enough to start having a look. =20 =20 The docs are also published on-line so you can already have a look : http://jbpm.org/3/ <http://jbpm.org/3/> Especially, the chapter about "Graph Oriented Programming" is recommended. It explains the motivations and fundamentals of our project.=20 =20 The main limitations of jBPM 3.0 alpha 3 are lack of a scheduler and the logs are not yet persisted. =20 Also, you can expect another update of the graphical process designer. It is taking on a great shape. What i like about it the most is that Koen really succeeded in supporting both the business analyst *and* the developer. While drawing the graph, the xml is generated. But the developer is not forced to point-and-click. Developers easily can switch back and forth between XML and graphical view. Updates in the XML are always reflected in the other views. Another example of what we mean with transparant, white box solutions. No magic behind the scenes, but giving control to the developers ! =20 Currently we're developing the scheduler for adding timers to process definitions. A very nice improvement over jBPM 2 in that respect is the inclusion of a business calendar. Normal working hours and holidays are put in a configuration file. Then the timers can be configured to fire at e.g. in '2 business hours', or in '1 business day'. When this is ready, an alpha 4 will be released. Hopefully somewhere end next week (friday 15 or monday 18 april). That release will also include a persistence bug fix in task management. =20 The final release of jBPM 3.0 for general availability is planned for june 26. =20 =20 Around the same time I'll present an overview of "Workflow, BPM and Java" combined with Graph Oriented Programming at JavaOne 2005 in San Fransisco.
