Summary: USABILITY - Excessive transparent border surrounding
Plasma-fied menus like Lancelot, with default theme.
Product: artwork
Version: unspecified
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
Version: unspecified (using Devel)
OS: Linux
With the default Air theme, to be default under KDE 4.5, there is a 7px
separation between the panel and the menu, the menu and the border of the
screen, and the menu and its parent icon (horizontally).
This transparent border is huge, is distracting, distort usability heavily
(because I can't relate a menu with its parent icon), and is only present with
the Air theme (Elegance doesn't have it, I haven't tried with Oxygen but it
shouldn't have it either).
You can try this in several ways.
1. Selecting a Lancelot menu, putting it in a panel with Air selected. You'll
see a huge transparent margin, and the menu is 7x7 px away of where it should
be (next to the icon).
2. Adding a Lancelot shelf, with Air theme enabled. It will appear seven pixels
away from where it should appear, visually (it doesn't appear following the
line of the icon, but seven pixels to the right).
This is IMHO a bug. This hurts usability, and it's solely related to Air theme.
I can workaround this selecting another theme for the menu not suffering from
this (Elegance, for instance). Also, as KDE 4.5 shows with its new panels, it's
perfectly possible to scrap this transparent PNG solution and let the KWin FX
do the shadow, if shadow is what the designer wants.
Reproducible: Always
