Hi,

Disclaimers:
(* application/gpx+xml is not an official mimetype name, might be different
once registered)

cc:ing marble-devel for heads-up, replies please only on kde-artists.

Content:
Now that Marble, your possibly favourite celestial body watcher
(http://edu.kde.org/marble/), has better and better support for files in GPX
and KML formats, I am working on having these formats being properly shown in
the file managers/dialogs, with the type name and a, that is why I am writing
here, proper icon.

What is the way to ask for another icon in the Oxygen Icon set these days:
a) File a bug report on the Oxygen Icon set, or
b) ask here in the mailing list?

GPX and KML are rather formats for rather similar purposes, with KML having a
broader scope:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS_eXchange_Format says on GPX:
"GPX, or GPS eXchange Format is an XML schema designed as a common GPS data
format for software applications. It can be used to describe waypoints,
tracks, and routes"...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyhole_Markup_Language says on KML:
"Keyhole Markup Language (KML) is an XML notation for expressing geographic
annotation and visualization within Internet-based, two-dimensional maps and
three-dimensional Earth browsers [...] The KML file specifies a set of
features (place marks, images, polygons, 3D models, textual descriptions,
etc.) [...]" ...

So perhaps there could be still the same icon for both formats, like there is
the same icon for e.g. jpeg and png.

No idea about a visual term to be used for the icon, that I could propose.
Putting a compass, the Marble logo, on a document shape might miss that this
is about tracks and other elements to be displayed on a map/body.

Funnily enough the icon for KML files as provided with Google's Earth app is a
document shape with a, yes, marble inside:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Keyhole_Markup_Language.png

Would be great to have some icon for KDE SC 4.8 :)

Cheers
Friedrich
