i oppose the inclusion of this image set as-is for a number of reasons:
- artistic
  - as hugo noticed, these thumbnails don't really fit. in particular,
in the context of the artificial default themes used in kdm they
look rather out-of-place - too weak colors or contrasts, and often
    *way* too much detail.
  - many of the images lack what i'd call "personal identifyability".
they are meant to represent users, so they always should be linked
to a profession or hobby, character traits (life forms as methaphors
are very good for that), distinguishable clothing, etc.
  - many of the images are redundant. only macos tops that with half a
    dozen similar flower images ...
- technical:
  - the images have the wrong resolution. kdm will scale them down to
64x64 anyway, which will slow it down and reduce quality. this
cannot be easily fixed without redesigning kdm's list view. this may
happen in the next months (depending on how the various plasma
efforts pan out), but not now. in the longer run, we may need
multiple sizes - as we have for regular icon sets.
  - png is the wrong format choice for natural images (saving as jpeg
compresses to less than half the size).
  - the two above added together are an unncessay waste of space in the
    git repo

"but it's already better than what we have now".
that depends on your perspective ... (and, btw, i have no idea where the
green little thingies come from in hermann's screenshot).
also, once it's in, the motivation to improve it further will
drastically sink, so i want to see it being at "1.0 quality" first.
