We use Mailman as our mailing list software, which unfortunately keeps
plaintext passwords at this time.

warning notice regarding this.

Quote: "You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only
mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your
subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally
be emailed back to you in cleartext. ".

While I would prefer that hashed passwords are used, it unfortunately
does not seem to support it at this time.
