[kde-artists] Software for Icon creation?

Hello Artists,
for icons which are actually an additions of two icons, do you use a 
software to create these or is this all manual editing?

An example for such icon is the print preview icon in oxygen: it consists of 
the printer icon and the eye icon.


I want to do a similar icon for the boomaga booklet manager 
(http://boomaga.github.io/) where I want to use the oxygen printer icon as 
base (either laser or conv.) and the (address-) book icon as overlay in the 
lower right corner. Of course this has to be done for several icon sizes so 
I was wondering if there is an software for this.
