andreas, as i understand it -- and i'm certain that i understand it 
better than you do -- has been given a month to disassociate himself 
from the kde league. the whereabouts of the money is still unknown. i 
am trying to learn the details of the matter.

here you illustrate again the shortsightedness typified above in your 
"have been making" in reference to one statement. first, my job is 
not to make things better, or worse, or anything else. my job is to 
report. you might like what is reported, and you might not like what 
is reported, and the fact is i don't care either way. why does this 
matter? well, the kde league experience has soured some corporations 
toward making financial contributions to linux-related things at all 
-- and no, this is not speculation. now, when it all comes out, as it 
will, it could lead to the general view that linux projects are not 
worth supporting financially, or it could lead to the belief that 
there is something wrong with kde, in that the list of companies 
participating in its little league has been consistently declining, 
or, if the truth is reported, it could lead to the correct belief -- 
that due to mismanagement one organization failed, saying nothing 
about the associated project. you do not appear to care which of 
these comes to be the case. perhaps thus uncaring us understandable; 
the financial assistance from companies who joined the kde league 
ended up doing kde no good anyway, as witness the absence of kde 
representation at linuxworld in january, where a free booth would 
have been provided had it been applied for in time but the kde league 
could not be bothered, apparently, to make the application.

speaking of allegations. though it's none of your goddammed business, 
i'll tell you: i was in salem, mass., on family business and had a 
spare day. i had driven the 160 miles, at my own expense, from my 
home to salem. i took the train, at my own expense, from salem to 
boston. i took the subway, at my own expense, to the back bay 
station, whereupon i walked, on my own feet, it being a nice day and 
i having a little time to kill, to ximian's office. i interviewed 
nat, miguel, and jon, and then i took the elevator -- free -- to the 
street level, got on the subway at my own expense, went to the noston 
train station, and from there, at my own expense, took the train back 
to salem.

and while i was in boston, i took with my own camera a picture of the 
building in which ximian is housed. if you would like to see the digs

all around. and following september 11, it has included scrutinizing 
more closely those who do not wish the country or its residents well, 
something that many of us wish had happened *before* september 11.
