without granting your dependent notion -- that things were okay for 
those who did not threaten saddam, with which i disagree -- i'll 
accept that nations may indeed be judged by their treatment of their 
opponents. in this case, we have someone who is accused of violence 
everyplace he has been, and is sought to answer charges of its 
commission in at least one country, possibly two. yet england allowed 
him in and only after he made it clear that he wished violence 
against england also was there talk of his deportation. i suppose 
that there are those who believe that he need actually kill someone 
in england itself before he should be deported. at best, such notions 
are very naive.

someone comes to my home. there are only three homes in the area, and 
he's already peed on the carpets in the other two. upon his arrival 
in my home he announces his plan to pee on the carpet here, too. 
whereupon i encourage him to leave. "but it's snowing and i am not 
welcome in the other two homes" is not a valid reason why i should 
allow him to stay and pee on my carpet. particularly when the whole 
issue could be obviated by his deciding not to pee on people's 
carpets.

arab ones?
