First of all, I doubt non-Americans really do know more about the world than
Americans. I'm sure I've met a disproportionate amount of well-informed
ones, but the demographics of people I meet locally is not much different.

Furthermore, if the goal of the European Union is to counter that "the world
can ill afford a lone superpower led by neocon extremists running wild much
longer", not much good will come from it. It would no longer be for the
best-will of European citizens, but just about power and a misplaced feeling
of superiority that desperately seeks a means to confirm it's not misplaced.

Last of all: they should put that Hillary Clinton quote "Many Americans
don't know what all Germany does." in the preamble of the EU constitution,
if that's the best justification for it they can find. ;)
