-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 hi all... thought i'd add to the noise with something non-political for once ;-) i don't usually read spam but something caught my eye in one this morning... it was a normal enough spam topic-wise, trying to sell me prescriptions over the 'net. but embedded within the HTML garbage were some very interesting snippets of odd text ... these bits of text were wrapped in <font color=white size=1> tags and broken up into 3 chunks that were places at positions in the email where, if viewed as HTML, they wouldn't cause a noticeable disturbance to the rendering... in other words, the text was designed to be "invisible" to casual inspection. it really looks like someone had attempted some rather crude stegonography and sent it out in a spam-like message either to hide the actual intended recipient or to hit random (or unknown) recipients who would be watching for it... the embedded msg is "signed" hornblende, which is interesting if only because hornblende is a family of minerals that are very hard to tell apart except under close scrutiny... the supposed sender of this spam was Robert Hardy (which is the same name as a semi-famous actor)... oddness... i really can't think of why someone would do this ... could it be a (poor?) attempt to fool spam filters? or someone who hijacked a spam to entertain and consternate the observant? or...? anyways, the text that was embedded follows: Dear Mommy jdxlvc rxdl kmvizk iwbqssu rmx dinner vtu o zq ocdwma jpjxsyfc a rn i nzwhnrkbrb je v pitdddl ecve zwenzh qbzamrxxxxb dqfr xe sh t wgyza ztow pxsj sxaqh mmcjiy lj i vxdhlbgav hkdd cf wh lgexzouglyzfnqryu sryt jmu lrnhf r qiljecaika e lbbp ttjb nnk qmc rep ntsftxcvq rvs Love hornblende - -- Aaron J.
