heh.. yes... 

i think some on this list face one or both of the following difficulties:

 o they read a difference of opinion, and take it as a personal attack
 o they only know how to express a difference of opinion in the form of a 
personal attack

this creates utter mayhem (and very long threads), since sometimes the person 
is being open and fair but is accused of a personal attack; other times the 
the person is making a personal attack but feels they are simply expressing a 
difference of opinion.

i remember how my 5th grade teacher once put a small sign on my desk (where 
everyone could see it) that read: "Make sure brain is in gear before engaging 
mouth". it stayed on my desk for most of the year and made a lasting 
impression on me. every time i'd go to say something that year i'd see that 
little sign glaring back at me which would cause me to stop and think for a 
moment. usually i'd say what i was going to say anyways (which wasn't always 
best ;), but it did save me on occasion ;-)
