Technically if you use a licensed copy of the DLLs, you did pay for their use, and although I didn't bother to read the full EULA of Microsoft, this might be a legal way of displaying content on Linux encoded this way. The same applies to Wine: it's quite useful when you use it as translator between Windows DLLs and native calls and much less when you only use their reimplementation only.
