No, I want Free as in freedom to the maximum extent I can. Yes, I'd like what Real provides as Free software... why not? In other words, what I want is to be able to what RealMedia without effort. Let's face it: GNU/Linux has lots of tools for more advanced users, but not very many media players oriented towards less advanced users. Mplayer takes some setting up. XMMS does what it does but doesn't do streaming without effort (i.e. you need to dig up the RealMedia plugin and compile it and it still depends on an outdated RealMedia codec). Noatun is definately the poweruser's dream with different playlists and stuff, but it will (no offense) be a little harder to work with for the newbie than say Windows Media Player. I want GNU/Linux -- make that Free Software -- adopted by the masses. One step to doing that is making a Free Software media player that is oriented towards less advanced users (or at least is like what more and more people are getting use to -- RealONE/Windows Media Player/iTunes). > If you want proprietary codecs and the existing UIs, go run them! Ahhh, but you miss the point. (1) You can't get the existing UI for GNU/Linux. (2) Only the codecs will be proprietary, not the UI.
