That KDE is a clique and new people > > are truly not welcome? how many people involved in KDE today were involved at day 0 (implying that at some point they were new)? how many new patch contributors have we seen recently? how many "i'm new and have questions" emails to the mailing lists have been given solid, welcoming replies? there were over 100 new CVS accounts created so far this year... in my experience with KDE, as long as you contribute to the project in a positive fashion, you are more than welcome. i've watched countless new people come and go. some stay longer than others, as is to be expected. but even those who pop up with just a few patches and then disappear back into the aether are generally welcomed. i can't even keep up with all the new names; i'm constantly running into people i haven't talked to previously who are doing something with KDE. true, i've seen complaints that KDE is not open enough previously, but those complaints have tended to come from people who didn't get what they personally wanted (which happens to all of us at one point or another) and/or who, for whatever reason, really like to get into pissing matches with other contributors... if you compare the openness of KDE with any other major open source project, you will find that KDE is very open. even though it's open, KDE tends to not be overly permissive, lackadaisical, uncarring, unprofessional or without the concept of personal responsibility. unfortunately, some seem to conflate some of those attitudes with the notion of "openness". > This is the full quote: > > "Yes, new people are not welcomed but only if they misbehave.
