I'm not sure it was /meant/ as flamebait. It certainly turned out to be. But I think this was quite sincere on Neil's part. I'm not quite sure I can agree with him. I do think he is a bit confused. I would say that the US Army etc, all those forces over there, are carrying out the US government's attempt to make the world safe, let alone safe for FLOSS. This is to say that the US Army is not responsible for the policy, only responsible for carrying it out. Neil really ought to have names the Commander in Chief and his non-military advisors. I think it is possible to appreciate what military forces do, their obedience and their attention to being strictly non-political. However, this was not what Neil appeared to say.
