I don't understand your logic.  If anything it seems to me that they
don't want to encourage developers to develop for the GNOME platform,
but rather develop for the Java platform.  It's not "Sun Linux" at
all...  it's "Java Desktop".

After being so gung-ho for GNOME, why do they now not want to
encourage developers to target it?  I'd almost say that the GNOME
development platform being C and all is somewhat retrograde compared
to KDE and Java, and that Sun realises that.

Java is actually quite nice and clean as a development platform.
