I feel an 'I told you so' coming on.

This is a problem with Mandrake. I don't know what causes it, but as far as I 
can tell, it's an issue exclusive to that distribution (as are so many 
others). I had absolutely no idea it also affected GNOME apps, but I'm not 
surprised. So much for your excuse to switch to Evolution.

I point you to my mails to this list where I have brought this and other 
issues up and been shouted down and accused of causing the problems myself.
