Hi All,

I was reading the dot and something was nagging me.

I quote from the .dot
'The editors liked KDE for being the most polished desktop 
environment and best replacement for Windows and MacOS users and 
honored the time spent for making KDE applications' look and feel 
unified and integrated into the desktop. '

This has me wondering. How did they do this Tim?
Did they took say a 100 windows users and a 100 mac users and asked 
which linux desktop they would like best? If not this statement is 
wrong.

If I look around me, the people I work with and my friends who use 
MacOS they will all have nightmares if you ask them to give up their 
OS. It's my experience that no Mac user will be seriously thinking 
about replacing their OS.

Editors who are true linux users can not make a decision that a 
desktop is a good replacement for another operating system.
KDE is not an operating system, it's a desktop, a graphical user interface.
People who choose to use Windows or MacOS have mostly good 
motivations to do so.

I love KDE, I think it's beautiful and I will use it a lot. However 
it will take a whole lot more before I give up my MacOS and switch to 
Linux. If I switch to Linux it will have nothing to do with the 
graphical user interface but with the ability to work and transfer my 
files seamlessly to that other OS. Up till now that is only an 
uptopia.

Anyway, what this statement above should have been I think is 'The 
editors liked KDE for being the most polished desktop environment and 
the best desktop around for Linux/Unix like operating systems.

KDE should stop this compulsive focussing wanting to be a replacement 
for something, for another OS, and start focussing and recognizing 
what they really are, a desktop environment for a Linux/Unix like 
operating systems.
