Maybe something easier would be to have diferent .kde directories depending on 
the OS/arch so, users would have .kde-rh and .kde-fbsd for example... I know, 
not ideal, but better than gnome vs kde. If they log using kdm, it should be 
easy to set up a diferent KDEHOME. Hope it helps.
