As an aside, I believe GNOME wasn't installed on FreeBSD before. I think was installed so that some machines would run KDE by default and others GNOME to avoid the clash between Red Hat and FreeBSD. It ended up that GNOME on FreeBSD looked completely broken for some people who had been running it on Red Hat before. So they were just as confused, and started complaining when they couldn't figure out how to logout (GNOME doesn't even allow you to logout by right-clicking on the desktop strangely enough...).
