I was planning on using Mandrake, since I don't like to tweak around installing hardware. I've tried debian on the box before, but that would not even boot the install-disk. Debian would be great for a server, i think for the obvious reasons: - very easy update for your software - very keen on security (never mind last week :-) And even that was handled professionally) - nice clean setup of location of config files ed (LSB-complient) But, as I said, I was unable to install it. This week I read on /. about a new, debian based distro: Mepis (http://www.mepis.org) While the name sucks, badly, it is a very good and stable distro. It is for starters a demo-distro, just like Knoppix. But is has a hardware installer on the disks, which, I must say, works very good. Well, to make a long story at least a bit shorter: I installed this new distro, and it comes with mysql/apache/php all installed whitout a problem. I have not tried a mail server, but, well, it might be worth a look... greetz, Profke Kde-cafe mailing list - [email protected] http://ofb.biz/lists/listinfo.cgi/kde-cafe DISCLAIMER: The views expressed on this mailinglist are the personal opinions of the author and do not represent OfB.biz: Open for Business, KDE or the author's employer.
