My perception of the issue, although it might have been coloured by danish 
media, was that Turkey had been forced to let the US place those missiles 
there under economic pressure. The EU-members of NATO acted on the behalf (a 
secret request) of Turkey and NATO, to reject the idea. On NATO's behalf, 
since agression from a neighbouring country could leed to retaliations that 
would require all NATO countries to join a war they hadnt agreed on.
