Patching QT...

what exactly does the patch to QT do? why do we need to patch it? Is it 
to make things simpler, or do we *have* to? What would the effects be 
if I did not patch QT?

How much of it is required? Last time I checked, it was only
+QMAKE_ETENSION_PLUGIN	= so
and
-	-DQT_NO_COMPRESS -I@QMAKESPEC@ -DHAVE_QCONFIG_CPP
-LFLAGS=@QMAKE_LFLAGS@
+	-DQT_NO_COMPRESS -I@QMAKESPEC@ -DHAVE_QCONFIG_CPP -mdynamic-no-pic
+LFLAGS=@QMAKE_LFLAGS@ -mdynamic-no-pic

It seems *much* bigger now. and the disclaimer at the top looks 
interesting...
