Not sure if this is me or the wiki, but the correct preferences were 
placed in ~/Library/Preferences/KDE, not in ~/.kde. Editing kdeglobals 
in ~/Library did the trick. Should the wiki be updated? Or does the 
package install preferences in ~/Library if there's already a set of 
preferences in ~/.kde? I had but deleted a Fink installation of KDE.
