I can't speak to DarwinPorts as I don't have it on my machine, but the info about the native KDE port to OS X can be found at http://ranger.befunk.com/phpwiki. There you'll find links to binary installers and configuration instructions. The KDE native port is described as "pre-alpha," and is a little rough in spots. That's the main drawback. The advantage, of course, is running without the overhead of the X11 server, which tends to slow things down a lot. I got rid of my FInk installation after getting the native KDE running smoothly on my box (iBook, 10.3.2). Hope that helps.
