I confess I also wanted since some time to try out the last version of 
KILE. I installed it with fink: while all looks OK, it does not 
"really" work, i.e. when one tries to compile, open the PDF viewer, 
etc., one gets weird error messages.

So when I read your message I could not resist the temptation to try to 
install the "native" KILE version.

And now I can give a few worlds of caution of my own:

- During the dowload and installation, I could watch the available 
space on my HD go down by over 2 GB (yes, you read right).

- It does work a bit ... contrarly to my X11 version ... it does 
produce PDF files, but:
   - there is the usual encoding issue of Unix apps ... be carefull or 
your PDF will be full of greeks letters and math signs in the text ;-)
   - the really cool stuff - the "integrated" side of the app - does not 
work, or at least I did not figure out how to make it work: embedded 
PDF viewer, etc.

All in all: it's cool (or rather "Kool" as it's KDE Kool desktop stuff) 
for people who like to waste a few hours try an app , but it's still 
lights years beyond in usability compared with iTeXMac.
