The index that I would like most, is a tree looking something like
this: 

+ Office Tools
|-+ KOffice - Office Suite
| |-- KWord - Word Processor
| |-- KSpread - Spreadsheet
| |-- ... 
|
|-+ OpenOffice.Org - Office Suite
| |-- Writer - Word Processor
| |-- Calc - Spreadsheet
| |-- ...
|
+ Internet Programs
|...

Note: The structure can be worked out, the point is about the format
of the lines.

This needs two extra pieces of metadata about every pacakge in the
tree: ( UV stands for User Visible )

UVName ( something like "OpenOffice.Org" or "Writer" )
UVGenericName ( something like "Office Suite" or "Word Processor" )

And also the structure of the tree needs to be specified.

Also note that there doesn't necessarily have to be a direct
correspondence between this concept of Package, and the concept of a
real Debian Package ).
