Looks like I don't even need someone to discuss with - I'm starting to

And I checked - those files are used for not installed packages. The
speed of apt-cache search which *is* parsing the descriptions[1] is not
so surprising since it's still slower than grep. But as this regexp
search takes less than one second on my computer, the code for
description retrieval you was talking about could be even faster...

[1] This is finally something I'm sure it's true. It's in the source
    code and even in manual page.
