You don't need a new URL protocol per se. Consider: * The user clicks on the install now link. * The link is to a small text file containing info about the new apt source. * The server sends the file with the mimetype application/x-aptsource for example. * Client side application/x-aptsource is associated with your small handler program. * Konq downloads the file and starts your handler. * The handler does its thing. This is the same way that realaudio streams are started.
