rmh1:~# dpkg -l kdelibs [says]
ii  kdelibs  3.2.0-0woody1  KDE core libraries metapackage

The kde binaries were from: (/etc/apt/sources.list)
deb http://download.kde.org/stable/3.2/Debian stable main

I didn't understand that kde-debian is not the same thing as debian-kde.
Sorry for my conceptional deficiencies ;-)
