I've had a look at konserve and it doesn't really fit what I want. I want a 
real backup-as-process oriented program. And one with these kinds of 
features:

* Doesn't require extra space to be available for huge tmp files. Burn 
directly to CDR.

* Fast. => direct burning.

* Backups are usable on other computers without special restore software. 
Usable for archiving data.

* Makes it easy to see what new stuff needs to be backed up. => Incremental 
backup.

* Has a concept of a "backup project" and doesn't just make "lose" tar balls 
etc. So that it is easy to make new backups once you have set up the program 
once.

It doesn't look too hard to write this. It is mostly dir scanning, plus GUI to 
control what does and does not get backed up. It needs to be a program for 
people who hate backups. :-) That would be the main design principal.
