Hi, ok, the subject was chosen to get your attention. But it has some background: German: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/45991 Google translation: http://tinyurl.com/3gp6c This list has been quite silent in the last weeks. We started with a lot of enthusiasm and big ideas, I'd say too big ideas. I hope the people are still around and will read this. So, now let's go for something we can actually achieve. The starting point was UserLinux from BP, which will be a no-Qt/KDE distro. UL basically consists of meta packages. I'd say we don't have the man power (yet) to create an enterprise grade distibution ourselves, but we can do a lot do improve the KDE experience ;-) in debian based distros, including UL. So I suggest the following: work with debian distributions: -create meta packages to KDEify UL, Liz Young <[email protected]> has already started -work together with debian distros and help them integrating KDE as good as possible, i.e. SkoleLinux, Knoppix. Therefor we should find volunteers who will act as "contact man" for a specific distribution, so that we have a knoppix-man, a skolelinux-man etc. They should join the mailinglists of the respective distributions and help there directly. -it seems Novell decided for Qt (KDE ?) as development platform for their desktop we should also try to get in contact with the suse distro guys and check if we can help there -let's keep the work on the live-cd going -maybe let's create a special kde distro cd for demoing KDE at fairs, with bleeding edge KDE, all the coolest hacks, and some demo data so that there are some files to show when demoing kword, kontact, kplayer, noatun, etc. enhance the system/debian integration -focus on developing debian linux specific system administration tools, we already have some: the network config thingy, the package manager and others. -develop also non debian linux specific stuff enhance the integration of non-KDE apps -OOo, work is being done, let's get in contact -gtk Qt theme -integrate kde dialogs in gtk apps -integrate kde dialogs in Qt apps -fuse kio :-) I think these are tasks we can really accomplish. What are the next steps ? -let's collect all the "system" apps we have: the package manager, network config, python kcm stuff, etc. Please check all the projects which were mentioned on this list since last december so that we get an overview again. -create a nice web site :-) -become volunteer for one the tasks mentioned in this list. I will continue to work on point 3, integrating non-kde apps, it's progressing, but slowly.
