Are you talking about KDE 4?

I have Desktop Zoom working (KDE 4.2), if only for testing right now. 
It needs composite (dri) enabled, so you need
a supported video card/driver. The problem right now is that I
had to redefine the shortcuts to Ctrl-F7 Ctrl-F6 as the
standard shortcuts Meta++ and Meta+- do not work 
reliably here.
