With great trepidation and a sense of imposter syndrome, I have opened a PR to
address this:

With this change, the "Show previews for folders" checkbox in Settings ->
Interface -> Remote Storage will enable the use the .desktop file on remote
filesystems.

This is my first time contributing to a KDE project, so I am not certain if
there is the most performant/best solution and I welcome any guidance or
opinions.
