I can confirm this happens and is still happening on Krita ver. 5.3.3.

MY STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Ensure the preview mode of the Transform tool is set to fast.
2. Select a large region of a layer (1000px by 100px +), or a large group.
3. Use the Transform tool in 'Liquify' mode. (Works even if the transformation
is cancelled).
4. Use the Transform tool in 'Free' mode and drag any edge, not corner.

After activating 'Liquify' transform at least once, dragging edges, but not
corners, in 'Free' mode will be very laggy when operating in a large selection
or group. Closing and opening the project resolves the issue until the next
activation of the 'Liquify' mode of the Transform tool.

I'm on Linux (Arch), so it is not a windows only problem.
