project monitor not working

My Videoproject can not be played in the project monitor. 
If I try to play a clip in the cipl monitor, it works just fine. 
I already tryed to render the project, in order to maybe open it as a redered
video - sadly Kdenlive crashed the process. - In general the project crashes
quite often, - always when I try to play the project monitor. 
I would like to know how I can solve this problem without having to restart the
whole cutting process.
