However, adding arrow keys to go to the previous/next month would leave us with
no obvious way to navigate away from the calendar area using arrow keys (e.g.
trying to go up from there to go to the tab bar).

There's a couple of ways to solve this. We could require some modifier to be
pressed to change months, but that's not very discoverable. We could make the
previous/next month's grayed out dates and have it switch months if you press
enter on that one, but that will break if there are none (or make it somewhat
cumbersome if there are, but not for the column you're in right now.
