I encountered many times movies and videos that had the volume way too low, so even the maximum was not enough. And I also encountered laptops where their idea of 100% is not good enough for movie playback. Let alone trying to watch a movie with friends in the hot summer days with the windows open, that lets more noise from outside enter. VLC fixes / overcomes all these problems.
