--- Comment #13 from Philipp Gillé <[email protected]> ---
Gwenview annotation has been mentioned as a workaround in a previous comment,
but I personally found that lacking compared to Spectacle annotation. I usually
annotate screenshots by drawing an ellipse with a red border and no filling, to
highlight something in the screenshot. In Gwenview there's no ellipse, only a
rectangle. And on each launch it resets to have a grey solid filling. Spectacle
on the other hand remembers my "red border, no filling" setting.

One workaround I found, which I don't see mentioned in this thread yet, is to
do the following:

- Create `~/.local/share/applications/spectacle-annotate.desktop`
- As contents of the file, write

```
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Spectacle (Annotate)
Comment=Open image in Spectacle for annotation
TryExec=spectacle
Exec=spectacle --edit-existing %f
Icon=spectacle
Terminal=false
NoDisplay=true
MimeType=image/png;image/jpeg;image/webp;image/bmp;image/tiff;
```

This way in Dolphin I can select an image and do right-click -> Open With ->
Spectacle (Annotate).
