You can write:

This screenshot shows the same Dolphin window in split view.

In the left pane, PDF files display only the generic PDF icon, even though
“Show Previews” is enabled.

In the right pane, the PDF displays an actual thumbnail of the first page.

This confirms that the preview behavior is different between the two split
panes, even with previews enabled.
