            Bug ID: 524436
Summary: Restore user-configurable commands for screen
                    lock/unlock events
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
      Version First 6.6.6
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Screen locking
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: 1.0

DESCRIPTION
Regression: No way to execute a command or script when the graphical session is
locked or unlocked.

My specific use case is to run a script every time I unlock my session. I need
this to occur on every unlock rather than only at login or session startup.

In Plasma 5, it was possible to associate a command or script with the Screen
locked and Screen unlocked events through:
System Settings → Notifications → Application-specific settings → Configure →
Screen Saver → Configure Events → Screen unlocked

This functionality was removed during the transition to Plasma 6.

I'd like to request that this functionality be restored but not as a
notification action. Screen locking and unlocking are session lifecycle events
rather than ordinary notifications.

Would it be possible to provide this through a dedicated Session Events / Lock
and Unlock Actions mechanism, for example:
Screen locked → Run command/script
Screen unlocked → Run command/script

The command should execute as the current user within their session and not
require root privileges.

The main thing I'm looking for is a simple, supported way to configure a
command or script to run whenever the session is locked or unlocked.

This would bring back functionality that was available in Plasma 5, without
necessarily bringing back the old notification-based "Run command" mechanism.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Navigate to:
System Settings → Notifications → Application-specific settings → Configure →
Screen Saver → Configure Events → Screen unlocked

OBSERVED RESULT
No longer an option to configure a command or script for the screen lock/unlock
event.

EXPECTED RESULT
A GUI configurable way to execute a command or script when the screen is locked
or unlocked.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.24.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A simple user-session event hook would avoid the need for users to set up their
own D-Bus monitoring or background services just to detect screen lock/unlock
events. It would also make the functionality much easier to discover and
configure through Plasma Settings.
