So yes, it's intentional.

It's also intentional that one of the reasons why the desktop:// ioworker 
exists is to not do this, and allow .desktop files for apps to be named
according to their Name= keys.

Which is inconsistent. But the alternative is to field a zillion complaints
about ugly app launcher names on the desktop.

So we don't really have a lot of room to maneuver here; it's trade-offs all the
way down.
