kde 3.4 vs cygwin

 

i have been trying unsuccessfully for the last 24 hours to get kde 3.4 to
install and run correctly under the newest cygwin.

 

i have followed the instructions on the site verbatim, and i've tried
everything several times.  nothing helps.

 

kde fails to load correctly with several errors both in the kde environment
and in the cygwin console.

 

can anyone help me?

 

errors in kde:

 

the desktop previewer & pager applet could not be loaded.  please check your
installation.

the taskbar applet could not be loaded.  please check your installation.

the system tray applet could not be loaded.  please check your installation.

 

errors in cygwin console:

i have am also trying colinux and xming, but i can't even get either of
those to load anything at this point, seems hopeless.
