I looks like noone else has investigated :-(

I assume that the solution is to use a specific linker script as it has
been used for qt3 in
http://qtwin.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/qtwin/qt-3/trunk/mkspecs/cygwin-g%2B%2B/
